Community Garden

Mission

  • Provide an opportunity for the community to grow their own food.
  • Build community among neighbors.
  • Demonstrate permaculture principles with an emphasis on native plants that encourage pollinators and wildlife.
  • Create opportunities for children to interact with nature.

Getting Involved

The community garden has about 30 plots, as well as community managed areas such as an Herb Bed, Sprawling (squash) Bed, Orchard, Pollinator garden, permaculture edges, and a Chicken Co-op. If you’re interested in joining the community garden, email hiddenalleyranch@gmail.com and provide address & contact information. The yearly plot fee is a sliding scale from $40 to $70 and subsidized plots are available.

Hidden Alley Ranch Community Garden is for neighbors who lack gardening space but see the benefits of gardening. We have youth gardeners, millennials, lots of families involved, older residents, and low-income gardeners all forming a community around a strong shared interest which contributes towards their health and happiness. In the 2019 garden participation survey, 44% of gardeners who responded said that they ate more fruits & vegetables and got more exercise, 33 % said that their kids were outside more, but 89% said that it improved their lives because they met more neighbors.

HAR welcomes all different formulations of involvement with the project. Some folks have a garden plot only, some folks have a garden plot and chicken share, some folks participate in community spaces only and don’t want their own garden bed, it’s up to you!
